Multiple access points - not broadcast all SSIDs?

Sun Mar 03, 2019 10:20 am

Have a cable co. Arris modem router in basement. Since we live in an older, large ranch-style house, have two TP-Link A7 AC1750 routers upstairs set up as access points. The TP-Links are connected to the Arris via Cat5E I ran a few years ago.

They all broadcast the same SSID (call it Blastmaster) and it's the same on the 2.4 and 5 bands. So right now, if you do a wifi scan, you see 6 Blastmasters pop up, 2 for the basement modem/router and 2 each for each AP.

Question - is there any downside to not broadcasting the SSID on the 2 APs?

Thanks.
