it may be, but experience would help too.

But I thought the whole point of acquiring that kind of qualification was that you didn’t need experience compared with conventional qualifications. Since CCNA has built-in experience.

All I want really want is to get in the networking field, I’m not really concerned with money part. If I can get into the field I’d be really happy, I hope CCNA will do that for me.

Not to burst your bubble but just a CCNA wont secure or guanantie anything in todays IT field. Sure it will help, but you also need some work experience. Its the whole catch 22 and it sucks at first. However once you can get your foot in the door somewhere and can some on the job experience then certs will add to that. Certs can teach you alot but nothing will teach you as much as experience. Also it looks good if you have some college degree.

Ok, so what would you do after obtaining a CCNA, but having no experience? I mean what would be the best option?

I’m not familiar with the term “collage degree” do you mean a university bachelor’s? I’m from England :)

heh, yeah - they mean some paper from a university i think. CCNA is good, but experience definately is the main killer.

for example, check out http://www.reed.co.uk. Do a quick search using CCNA as a search term when you're in the IT -> Systems/Network Admin section and count how many times you find something along the lines of:

"2years hand-on Cisco experience up to CCNA Level. Knowledge of Cisco VPN Concentrator, Cisco Switching, Cisco Routers, Cisco Pix Firewall, Cisco Secure, Good understanding of MPLS, BGP, HSRP, VPN, DSL, and TCP/IP
Good Cisco troubleshooting skills encompassing a general level of knowledge of Microsoft networking and PC configurations"

Bits of paper are good, but experience is better - I know plenty of highly skilled people with loads of experience but no qualifications, simply because they've never been bothered to do them. It doesn't matter though - they could easily out-perform some people who are certified up to the eyeballs.

Unfortunately its a no-win situation though - you can't get experience without a job, and you can't get a job without experience. You may have to start with a less-than-ideal job in order to get the experience to allow you to start applying for better jobs.

That pretty much sums it up perfectly.

I agree that experience is very much saught after, however, I've seen ads for jobs where applications without CCNA will not even be looked at so I wouldn't get put off by this - everybody starts somewhere and if it's a beginner's position you're looking for , you'll have more chance of securing a place than somebody with no experience AND no CCNA. If you're motivated to get a CCNA cert, go for it.
