I have a SPA525G2 phone and a UC5xx box. The UC supports the new Cisco SPCP protocol and so does the SPA phone. I did some digging ages ago and found that the SIP setup would provide more features. Have just done another bit of digging and found that the SPCP would provide more features.

Since I know absolutely nothing about SPCP just yet, has any of the forum had experience with this and can provide recommendations / experiences?

SPCP is just a modified form of SCCP for SPA phones. You will get far more features on the UC500 using SCCP (or its SPA form)
