traceroute !H * *

hi everyone

could you please tell me what the hell is !H * *

i see it in my trace route result

TRACEROUTE IP
1 IP 2.215 ms 0.584 ms 0.481 ms
2 SAME IP 0.486 ms !H * *
3 SAME IP 0.848 ms !H * *
4 SAME IP 2.171 ms !H * *
5 SAME IP 0.659 ms !H * 0.562 ms !H

i search it in google and i dont understand why it goes like a sime tipo of a loop it goes throu the same ip 5 times

I'm not sure either, but check your routing table to see theirs anything out of the ordinary. It looks like you have a routing problem or something related.

In Cisco routers, the codes for a traceroute command reply are:

! -- success
* -- time out
N -- network unreachable
H -- host unreachable
P -- protocol unreachable
A -- admin denied
Q -- source quench received (congestion)
? -- unknown (any other ICMP message)

Nice one Dinger! I did check my ICND2 book for the meanings which did list the majority of the list above, but apart from H and a few others.
