ASDM Problem

Mon Aug 04, 2008 3:57 am

Hi.

We have a cluster of two Cisco ASA 5520 in our environment. Suddenly ASDM has stopped working. When it is launching, I get the following error in the Java Console:
Code: Select all

I have tried reloading the ASDM image without success. I have not yet restarted the firewall, since I don't want to cause any interruption to service if it is not necessary, and I can use the CLI if I have to :)

It does not seem to be client related, because I get the same error on several computers, with different Java versions. I can also successfully connect to my ASA 5505 (running ASA 8.03 and ASDM 6.03).

Does anyone have an idea about what might be causing this problem?

Ower customer has the same problem.
I did used a different java version, but without any results.
Did you find anything, that solved the problem?

Yes, the problem occurs when the uptime exceeds one year, thus "For input string: "1 year 16" ". It seems it cannot handle the uptime string. The "solution" is to reboot them. It might be fixed in the newer versions of ADSM.

Thanks,

I logged into the ASA to look for the uptime:

KENFW01 up 1 year 37 days

We are planning to reboot the ASA now, but we have to wait till 18:00.

The same problem

Tue Feb 10, 2009 10:18 am

Hi
Thanks a lot for the solution to this.
I had the same problem with the cluster of ASA5510
had to wait until market hours are over (4:30) to reboot them both after which ASDM launched successfully.
Had the same log message.
So this is kind of oxymoron but if you have nice uptime and nothing breaks something will go wrong anyway :D

Again thx to UNO for your help!

Question....Was this using the Web version of ASDM or with the client installed on the machine? I'm just wondering 8)

It was both on web version (i assume the one that goes from web broser) and as a stand alone app. It was innaccessible from both of them. interesting enough I had two logins(windows server user logins) and I did not exit ASDM for quite some time at one of the logins desktops(it was running minimized). That one operated properly even though I could not login any other way. However as soon as I exited I was not able to get back in. So its not client specific or application/web app specific.
I hope sisco fixes it because I had uptime bigger than the time that company this router was working for existed   [/quote]

hello everybody !

i've got a "big" problem since yesterday on my ASDM interface.
I've got an ASA 5520, ASDM v?? (it's an old one year version i think), and Java 5.0 Update 14.

Friday, everthing worked fine and this Monday, i was unable to launch my ASDM interface after login screen.
So i checked the log files and i found this entry:

Exception in thread "SGZ Loader: launchSgzApplet" java.lang.NumberFormatException: For input string: "1 year 9"

So i'd waited 18:30pm to reboot my Cisco ASA as it said on this topic.

After reboot, i'd tried to launch again my ASDM interface and i've got this message !!

Unable to launch device manager from "ip address"

When i try to connect myself on the ASA web interface throught https://ipaddress , there is the following message:

"Internet Explorer cannot display the web page"

The log file returns the following message:

What version of Java are you running? The more recent releases don't support ADSM. I'm running 5.0 update 16, though there are some newer versions that work (1.6 update 7 I believe is the latest that works).
