I'm really out of shape I was swimming around a bit and man after 4 minutes of swimming I felt like was going to die. Wouldnt want to have be stuck in a position in deep water that I'd have to swim to safety. I'll probably cramp up and go under.

23.something - I've dropped about 22lbs since march and my lifts have all stayed the same in the gym.
also, the thing about l-arginine? throw in some zinc (30mg) and soya lecithin (1g) and uhhh... well I don't need to draw anyone a picture.

Most supplementation is pure marketing and/or placebo affect.

For the ones that have scientific proof backing them:

http://www.informationisbeautiful.net/p ... pplements/

Supplements that have clearly worked for me (over the last few years - regardless of scientific proof):
- Macca (energy & increased libido; take it on and off or it will lose effectiveness)
- Green Tea (energy, fat loss; no added sugar, just the good stuff)
- Greens+ [this is the product/brand's name] (Overall well being; 1 spoonful gives you something like a day's worth of antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins; main ingredients are lecithin and spirulina, both are extremely "healthy", bonus: you don't end up pissing out excess vitamins like with a multivitamin as it has a better absorption rate)

Stay away from the bad stuff guys, take it from somebody who was addicted to pre workout supplements.

As for any relevant workout/diet advice:
- Lift heavy; if you have lifting experience get into olympic lifts (get a trainer to help you out at first)
- Don't skip cardio (start with the cycle, then work your way up to elliptical, and then running... no point in running for 5 minutes when you can bike for 30)
- Most people advocate HIIT (interval cardio, ie 30 second sprint 60 second rest), I would suggest getting your basics down and then moving up to HIIT
- Listen to your body, don't overdo it
- Size is built in the kitchen

4 times a week and you should be shedding off weight

27. I get cardio on the bike, but need to stretch more and do some sit ups. Not drinking myself silly nightly would probably help too. :)

Didn't I just say this? ;P

It's more than the "money shot"... it helps drive, stamina... "presentation"....

This is fine if you want to look like the hulk. I have a large frame and good muscle mass naturally, I don't want to look like a musclehead.

IIRC, you're about my age- early 40s?

Look into DDPYoga.. it's "power yoga"... an excellent workout and gives you the stretching/cardio/situps/pushups deal...

The only problem with working out to look like the hulk is that once you stop working out you go from a beast to a big fat guy. I'm caught in the middle built a strong wide back years ago and it doesnt want to go down. Have trouble finding a shirt that fits me without it binding on my back. Some of you guys mention biking I want to get a bike not sure if its better to get a mountain bike or one of those marathon bikes (not sure what there called). I want to go around town and through the park.

I stand at 5"11 1/2 I went from 180 to 250 solid taking weight gainers, alot of chicken, and potatoes during the fall/winter months. I would shred up every spring went down to 205 this worked for 4 years. Then one year I met a girl that I was serious with right in the start of spring which put a damper on my spring training. End result put on the weight then never took it off :/. Just look like a beefy football player now. Haven't had the urge to return to the gym want to get into biking as I always remember it being fun to shred some pounds.

Size comes from diet; eat less and continue lifting. Calories in, calories out, that's all you need to know.

I'm also squared off naturally, but I've lost 30lbs in the past few months with proper training and diet.

Reduce your calories in, you'll lose weight and size. As for the bike, I meant a stationary, but I have a road bike back home. Love riding to work, but then again, I don't encounter any trails so I wouldn't need a mountain bike.

I've put on a few kilos while studying for the CCIE... I seem to be glued to a desk at work and then at home :(

When I work out I marginally put on weight. When I stop working out I go back to stick man. I've managed to get myself up to just over 80kg once, but that was a real struggle... hovering around the 74kg mark now.
My brain is always going 100%, if it's not on work it's on something else, I've put losing weight down to an overly active brain - it's proabably bull, though.

Same here. If I'm not putting some effort into it, I can easily lose some. My goal was also 80, but never made it. I thought I will be easier when I quit smoking (started eating like a beast), but it helped only for some time. Fortunately I never go below a certain weight either.
Yea, I'm also burning on high octane most of them time, which has something to do with metabolism for sure, but I think it has genetic reasons mainly (my mother is also quite slim).

My dad was quite slim like I am. But his brother and his brothers son are both heavy in weight. My uncle weighs like 23 stone and my cousin was 16 stone last time we had this discussion a good few years ago. They eat well, and train a little. Theyre kind of the bulky type but not toned, but with a beer belly :). So I kind of ruled out genetics as we're the complete opposite... ?

I just got a bike last week (17th) and put about 130 miles on it since. Look at a decent road bike, probably not one that is very expensive, that would be over $1k for me. Longest ride for me was on Sunday, did 45 miles, computer said i burned around 4600 calories on that ride. So far in the past month I have lost 8 pounds, about 2% body fat, from mostly cardio and light/medium lifting with abs thrown between lifting sets. Down total from April ~20 pounds, 40 to go for me to start focusing on a heavy lifting routine.

26 and no, i'm not moving to Eritrea in order to reduce it. :hand:
Already doing cardio using an ellyptical treadmill fpr 30-45 minutes and alternating days of Jilllian Michael's 30 Day Shred video - Started Level1 and now on the second week of Level2. :P

For supplements, DHEA @ 25 mgs has really made a difference in my energy level, pretty smooth and does not give me an rush-like high.
