How does this certification help in the real world if 99% of the market is saturated with the likes of Cisco, HP, etc... ?

We have only one out of about 200 clients that have a Juniper switch.

Not knocking in anyway, I am seriously curious, and have really contemplated looking into this.

It's an obviously comment to make but an important one too. The basis for learning Junos or getting this cert is only relevant to your desired job. If the company has a lot of Juniper kit then it's value increases but if they don't then what's the point? I'll assume this is what you mean by "real world".

So in "the real world" you'd cater your skill set to your desired job. This is just my 2c but I'd be learning VMware/Nexus for Datacentre, VMware and some Cisco IOS for enterprise. Let's say you wanted a job at Google, I'd suggest you'd focus more on Junos than IOS .

The commands will be different and some features will vary based on the OS but the underlying technologies will be the same. Now for the service provider world you could argue which is more prevalent but I'm pretty familiar with IOS and Junos but not so much IOS-XR. Cisco have almost disregarded the service provider world and it only seems they've come back to it in recent years.

Juniper definitely has more market share than 1%. If you learn Junos you also learn SRX, the firewall range which is ever so popular in some circles.

This is kind of interesting if you're into numbers - not the total amount of units sold but the amount of money Juniper makes - over a billion dollars a quarter (revenue, not profit). That is selling quite a lot of kit. Most of it service provider but still over $350 million dollars of Enterprise kit. In 3 months.

No. That's for the old JNCIA-M which has been retired. It's still a GREAT read but it's overkill for the junos exam. Just do the fasttrack and read the 2 guides they give there and you're good to go

Sorry to bring up an old post, but wanted to add there is some additional benefit to learning/certifying Juniper. The US gov't was mostly a Cisco shop, but they are looking for cheaper alternatives so now we're doing alot of testing with the Juniper EX, MX, and SRX platforms as well as Brocade stuff.

Being "vendor-agnostic" (I claim to be, but definitely my strength is centered in Cisco) is going to be very marketable I'd wager.
