Newb guy here,

Just messing around with packet tracer for a little practice. I tried to setup a router on a stick config with 3 switches trunked and PCs on different vlans. Anybody know of any issues that may arise with STP and inter-vlan routing? I set everything up correctly with trunking, addressing, encapsulations, vlans, but did not touch STP. Unable to ping from any PC to any where. Been racking my brain on this, but any input is appreciated.

Post router config? I dont think STP would cause a problem here.

Post the configs. Just don't forget to use the code tags.

Still waiting on the config, but did you configure sub-interfaces on the router?

Here's your problem. Explains why there's nothing, not even connected routes in the routing table for the subnets, I think?

Code:
Interface              IP-Address      OK? Method Status                Protocol

FastEthernet0/0        unassigned      YES unset  up                    up

FastEthernet0/1        unassigned      YES unset  up                   --> down <--

FastEthernet0/1.10     192.168.10.1    YES manual up                   --> down <--

FastEthernet0/1.20     192.168.20.1    YES manual up                    --> down <--

FastEthernet0/1.30     192.168.30.1    YES manual up                   --> down <--

Serial0/0/0            172.16.0.10     YES manual up                    up

Serial0/0/1            172.16.0.1      YES manual up                    up

Vlan1                  unassigned      YES unset  administratively down down

Find out why and let us know. I think I know what the problem is, and it's bit me before but on a different topic. I'll keep it to myself for now, but let me know when you're tired of looking and I'll tell you what I think it is.

Did you setup the switch port the router connects to as a "switchport trunk" with encapsulation?

There's 5 connections shown in the diagram on SW1. The output from SW1 shows 5 interfaces, Fa0/1 through Fa0/5, in trunking mode with 802.1q encapsulation, so I think he's good there. I'm pretty sure the problem is at the router.

Your Router Int showing protocol down itself....How it will do inter Vlan routing..

FastEthernet0/1 unassigned YES unset up down

. Check whether Speed setting at both switch and router is same.
. Check on Switch whether trunking is set to dot1q.

Well I know the protocol being down is not a good thing, but I thought the problem was not setting the encapsulation on Fa0/1. After a some quick research though, I think I'm wrong.

Do you have SVIs configured for the VLANs on SW1? Refer: http://www.firewall.cx/cisco-technical-knowledgebase/cisco-routers/336-cisco-router-8021q-router-stick.html

I wish my lab wasn't so jenky and hard to get to... I could easily reproduce this.

Haha... I shoulda picked up on, ''Why is Fa0/0 listed as up/up if you only have one Fa interface connected according to the diagram."

That'll do it.

When you have have Router on stick ..u dont need SVI.....as both do the same function Inter vlan routing...
For encapsulation L2 status doesn't goes down..I have suggested for aftermath.. :)

You can configure PT to always show interfaces labels.

Yeah.. I was iffy on the SVI thing but that's what the site I found with quick research said... I can't remember but... I don't think you can configure more than one SVI on a L2 switch?

It depends. In 2950 with the base image you can but only one will go active, the rest will shutdown. In 2960's you can configure more than one active SVI. In 2950's with enhaced image I don't know.
