Well it is called Data Center Fundamentals so it aims to teach the fundamentals, and it is actually a very nice book on the theory side.
MPLS Fundamentals goes way, way deeper than just fundamentals, so I was guessing/hoping this book does too.
So you think it's still relevant today?
Well I have also read MPLS Fundamentals, but I would say the aim of that book is totally different than this one, the MPLS one is focusing just on a narrow topic and you get a lot of in-depth information whereas the aim of the Data Center one is to give you a broad overview of the theory behind a lot of the technologies used in DC. I am a theory guy so IMO it is always relevant to learn the fundamental theory behind the technologies that we used.

I have a hard time believing that a book written before virtualization took off, and before Nexus, would still be relevant for the content of the CCIE DC. Heck, even ACE was still CSS then, and those are fairly different in the way they operate.
A lot of the concepts on the technologies in DC such as load balancer are discussed in this book. Of course you won't find the stuffs from virtualization (actually the theory existed since the 60s) but you wouldn't expect to learn the latest technologies from a book either (that's where RFC and technical papers come in). I personally actually think quite highly of this book.
