First off- the price is not capped, unless they've changed that in the last few hours- their licensed vendors are charging $40USD.

I am not so good with the maths, but I do know that $40 is not merely $5 more than $25.

at today's currency rates 25GBP ~= 40USD.
39.5388USD to be exact at the current exchange rate.

@DieselJeeper I was just giving you a hard time man :)

BUt I agree with ristau that it sounds like you're mixing up GBP and USD (and maybe even model A pricing vs model B).

kay, I have just gone here, notice the URL
http://au.element14.com/raspberry-pi/ra ... =raspberry

It is an Australian version of the site as I now reside in Australia. The price is just short of $40 Aussie dollars which ammounts to roughly £25 British quids or just over $40 American dollars.

Did I say something wrong before? I don't think the price has changed, although I read that worldwide shipping would be the same for anyone anywhere on the planet to make it easier for their mass-market.

To be honest, I don't care. Reasons being a tiny company has managed a concept and there has been such high, unexpected demand they cannot fulfil their demand. Unfortunately for their consumer base I cannot sit here, leant forward on my seat, waiting for the mail box to flap shut at a lead time of around six months. I'll simply do other things like get drunk. And check back on Ebay and their site some time in the future :D

With you on that, Dieselboy.

I could have sworn that the original price was USD...

Another similar product (though 5 times the price): the "cotton candy":

The trick is finding the coolest/stupidest thing that you can do with the pi.

Seems like the guys over piratebay have found a futuristic use of pi:

Just as I suspected. Copious amounts of home-grown.

So now they have another stumbling block.. apparently noone there thought that the device would have to meet CE guidelines and achieve certification before sale.

Really? NOONE thought they'd have to meet these standards? Wow...

How about RoHS requirements?

Yeah, not looking so good but at least they've been very transparent.

They didn't think that it would need to meet the requirements as it was supposed to be sold as a development device, but because it has come to the attention of people using it as a complete end user device or something it needs to be tested.

FCC testing is happening today I believe, fingers crossed

Yeah, Now maybe Farnell and RS will pull their finger out and start shipping the units.

I understand they have got FCC et al for US & Australia too so it should be good to go

My ship date got pushed back to August when the CE testing bit came up. So far it hasn't changed now that they passed testing...

Oh well, whatever.

Oh the possibilities. Gonna have to get one or two. Should be right up there with the Teency on the fun and interesting things to do with it category. Last fun thing I did with a Teency was program it to randomly turn on caps lock then I plugged it into a internal usb port on a co-workers computer.

It would be killer if they eventually made a PoE version
