I got some cat7's a day or 2 ago, and i know some people haven't even bothered to look up cat7, but i figured i would show some pics of what they look like. You should be able to notice differences compared to cat6 and below (like the gold plated connections)

looks like the days of crimping your own cable are a coming to an end.

it's for those saps that think it's possible to "future-proof" anything that has to do with computers, networks, or technology in general

actually, its Rosewill.

the idea behind cat7 is to increase the usable life span of copper crossover cables systems, so that majors components that use RJ45 wouldn't have to switch everything to fiber optic if they wanted speeds up to 10Gbps. Of coarse Cat7A does 40Gbps, and is also a copper crossover as well.

I didn't think 802.3ba included copper...at least not UTP.

So i inquired my professor further about RJ45 cables, and he says that all Cat5, 5e, 6, 6e, 7 use copper in them for the 8 wires in the cord. he also said the straight and cross over don't matter too much now a days cuz devices can config themselves to the right setting to use either.

so i guess im not too far off? can anyone confirm what i said in this post?

i made a short informational video on CAT7 cables. I used the term "future proofing", but not in the sense that it make something last forever. I used it as a way to express that it can expand the usable life time of a product. It would be super awesome sauce if someone could watch the video and tell me if i got any info wrong. I want to make sure i didn't give and incorrect info.

"Most" modern equipment features auto-mdix, but there is plenty of equipment that is currently in use that doesn't support it.

I've found if I carry a crossover cable in my bag I will never need it. It's only when I leave it at home that it is urgently required. That's not in the RFC but is a de facto standard ;)
