Good find! Very interesting indeed. Mailing list joined and eagerly waiting to buy a couple.

I don't have any monitors in the car yet. I want some kind of video / internet / TV system at some point. The Pi offers HDMI out which can be converted to DVI or VGA and it also offers RCA analogue out which can plug into a TV "yellow". So even if I did have an ancient Pioneer system with fold out TV I could make use of one of these little boxes, it really makes no difference.

Signed up for the mailing list. Would be interested in taking a look at one. Definitely sounds interesting.

We should work together on this- I have some ideas that have been floating around in my head for years, just waiting on hardware to catch up with the mobile environment. I was going to use the LittlePC form-factor units but only recently had the money to afford them, and other things take priority, like my solid axle swap on my truck.

Speaking of trucks, that your LandCruiser?

I've sub'd to the mailing list as well. I've seen this pop up now and again on slashdot (that bastion of libs and scriptkiddies) and always forgot to follow through on getting more info. Thanks!

I've been thinking of this for years too. All you need is screens where you want them, sound wired to your audio in on your BIG sound system, some USB storage, wifi card, mini keyboard and you have a rolling entertainment centre. Could even pull up maps for when you're out off-road. Or when you're friend keeps you waiting outside theirs you can pull up youtube.

That is my truck, it's actually a Japanese imported Hilux Surf. They marketed these in the US and England as a 4Runner - slightly smaller than a Landcruiser. Engine is a 3 litre Diesel, I've got an auto locking rear diff, front free wheeling hubs, dual batteries. I also have fishnet Recarro seats which come from the factory with the truck.

I'm after a Dodge Ram Diesel truck for fun :)

Thanks, what are you building?

(I thought I blew my diff up the other month... turned out a wheel spacer had come loose and therefore so had the wheel! Sounded terrible as I limped it back home!)

I've been keeping an eye on this thing. I'll be buying a couple when they come out.

I'm pretty sure you can run Ubuntu on that FYI... There is a project on XDA Developers to run Ubuntu on the HTC Desire, same architecture (I think!).

oh wow. That's hotness. Btw, it was originally slated to run Ubuntu but was dropped for some reason. They'll now ship with archlinux or debian. I'm sure there will be a build of ubuntu you can put on it though.

Limited RAM may be?
All I can think of now is, that thing in a box, in a secure padded part of my engineers bag, some usb to serial adapters for connecting to network kit, wireless keyboard and mouse or some other pointing device and a headset or other kind of screen. Could get a mini projector, or glasses or even a small reused laptop screen. Would be worried about protection though. Condoms aren't padded.

Given that XDA was keeping their product on megaupload, I wouldn't look for this anytime soon..
