Hi folks,

I'm struggling a bit here TBH. I don't class myself as an expert on these things, I only studied to A Level in Computing  But I tend to be able to fix most problems I have come across. However, here is where I stand.

I bought the TL-WA500G to connect the lads 360 to the wireless network, which is now a DIR-615. Previously, I had one of the Cisco WGA11B's connecting the Xbox to a WGR614, but when we got a replacement router, it was out with the old, and in with the new. Because I could no longer get the WGA11B to connect

This new adapter is supposed to be simple to connect. I do exactly as it says on the "tin", plug into laptop, find the SSID of the router, put in the WEP key, and nothing happens when I connect it to the Xbox. Tried with no encryption, still the same. The Xbox automatically assigns an IP address, but it's a 169.* prefix, which never works in my experience, so there is something wrong somewhere.

Can anyone point me in the general direction of where I'm going wrong? I'm struggling to get it, and at the moment, the Xbox is connected to wifi via a laptop - Not ideal! He should have got a PS3 :woohoo:

Thanks

OK your di-615 is a N router the TP 500 is a G adapter.
For it to work you might try setting the dlink in G mode only not B not N and Not Mixed or auto
Set the TP in the same matter G only. Try again
as always check for newer firmware for both units!

Hi,

Thanks for your answer. I'll have to look for some different firmware I think, I cannot set to 'g only' as far as I can see, it's either all, n only, or b and g. :(

Thanks again.

Test it with B&G leaving N out of the picture. See if it helps.

I'd just like to thank you for the assistance. :D

I did as you say, and it connected to the network no problem, but wouldn't connect to the Internet. After a bit of twiddling with the settings, and much head scratching, and trying random settings, I've finally(!) got the thing speaking to the router as it should.

Thanks again
