I have U-verse at home.
I have the wireless on the Uverse unit turned off.
My Apple Time Machine/N-Router is what I use for wireless.
My entire house is wired homerun to the main router via Cat5E. So technically I could put a hotspot anywhere I want...

My question is, what is the best way to extend my wireless network so I have better reception on the other end of the house? Should I just buy an extender like this one? Or is the best to somehow use the fact that I have the whole house wired to put another access point in? I'm assuming that would be on a whole different IP range though ...

Thanks

Buy a cheap wireless router that supports dd-wrt.

How should I set it up? Plug it into the network as another DHCP? Extend the current with it?

If you already have a CAT5 cable to the location you want to put an AP, you could do what wirerat said and buy a cheep wireless router and then do this...

To set up an access point ....Plug a PC or laptop into the router/switch that you would like to change into an Access Point. Use one of the LAN ports, not the internet port. Open a web browser, type in the router’s/switch IP address, and log in to it. Your network must have only one DHCP server, so disable the DHCP server on this router/switch. Now, assign this router/switch an IP address that's outside your main Router's DHCP server range. unplug the computer, place the router, now access point, where you need it, and connect it to main Router with an Ethernet cable (use the LAN ports at both ends) You should be able to connect to the new access point by typing the access point's IP address into a web browser on any computer on your network.

Actually, now that I think about it, I'm using the time capsule as nothing more than an AP right now. I can just get any N-Router and do the same thing again... There is no reason why both of them cannot have the same SSID is there?

So the main Uverse router still does all the DHCP, my two other routers will be set to AP only and they'll both be wired in to the switch.

Only question now is:

- Can they both have same SSID
- Any chance client devices will get confused?
- Will client devices switch back and forth seamlessly?
- On second thought, they don't need to be the same name either do they... I'm confusing myself.
