As some of you may know, I'm moving to Belgrade, Serbia on June 14th. I'm saying goodbye to my hometown of Seattle to experience the great yonder. The question I invariably receive upon telling people this is "why?!"

I am a Slavic Languages major at the University of Washington, and the language I'm focusing on is Serbian. As of this quarter, I'm finished with the language instruction portion of my major. I feel like if I don't do something to solidify it, then I'll forget it all. Being in Seattle, I don't get much of a chance to use it; for that reason, I'm heading somewhere I'll be forced to use it every day.

There are several practical considerations of this move. First, starting in a week or two, I'll be entering panic-mode, trying to get things sorted before I leave. After that, I'll arrive in Budapest, meet up with a friend, and travel around until we run out of money. That means I'll likely be off the grid from two weeks from now until around September.

I have created a blog which I'll hopefully be posting to regularly at: http://americanwerewolfinbelgrade.wordpress.com/

Seems logical.

Have an awesome time when you're over there. With this blog will there be pictures? Especially the types of food you'll get to have. :)

Sounds awesome dude. Wishing you all the best

I probably won't be putting many pictures up... just a textual representation of happenings. I will, however, add an album to my Facebook dedicated to living in Serbia... I'll see if I can link to that for those of you not on Facebook/not friends with me on Facebook.

you gonna blog in serbian? of english so you don't forget our language.

I think one of the biggest issues you will have are the local dialects, something
they don't teach you in a classroom, but that will be good for you.

anyhow have fun, be safe, I'll be looking forward to the adventures in the blog.

I'll be blogging in English, as the blog will be aimed at people I knew from the US. Maybe if I gain a Serbian following I'll start blogging in both languages, but I doubt that will happen.

I've been to the Balkans a number of times, and the dialects get a little strange in odd places, but I can deal with that. I'll be living in Belgrade, so I'll be speaking standard Ekavian Serbian (along with most other people in Belgrade). Out on the islands of Croatia, though, for example, they speak Čakavian Ikavian Croatian, which is quite weird to a non-native speaker... they can understand me fine, but understanding them is a bit of a task unless they speak slowly. There are a few other places like that, but I'm fairly accustomed to both Ekavian and Ijekavian dialects, and that makes up a grand majority of the speakers around there.

Apparently I missed the last message. I'm moving indefinitely, but the idea is that it won't be permanent... I'll be going back home at some point, just don't know when.

Anyhow, I got my computer today, have been in the process of setting it up. That means I'm back on the forum! I'll be around a lot more these days, I look forward to being part of the community once again.
