I passed along you shipping info to CiscoPress and asked them to send you the OCG. I'll post up when I get confirmation.

Yea, this one is open to everybody to track David's progress and for him to ask the forum for assistance, etc.

BTW, CiscoPress replied in the affirmative and will be shipping your books shortly.

He may not read the forums that often with only 60 posts in 10 months, or maybe he's not out of school yet(didn't he say he was 17?) or maybe he's really into the book ;) ....bueller.....bueller......bueller....

Please excuse the late response. I have not yet received the books, but am eagerly awaiting them. I have also been studying on the Cisco Learning Network.

Right on! Take your time with that first chapter. It's a bit heavy!

How is the reading going? Any rough topics yet?

Thank you for asking. I will be finishing Chapter 1 today and the only snag I have had so far is IP Source Routing combined with a spoofing attack. From my notes:

"Remote IP Spoofing Attack with IP Source Routing: IP Source routing can be used to specifically specify the path that a packet will take through the network. There are two types of IP Source Routing:
• Loose: Specifies a set of address though which the packet must travel.
• Strict: Specifies the exact route.
An attacker could combine IP spoofing with IP Source Routing to direct an attack to a host inside the network."

So basically someone is just telling the packet to go through a particular host. Could this be used to send a packet through a router's public address to a host with a private address inside the network?

Yeah, effectively, though they would have to know the ultimate private IP address, and certain planets would to algin A tip though, if you want to develop any professional credibility, I suggest that you refrain from making statements like "So basically someone is just ... ". Life and network security is much more complex and nuanced than that. Only politicans and salespeople say things like "it's simply", "basically the problem is", etc, and, of course, we know that they are always lying :-)

True. I'll be heeding this advice.

Going great. You can check out my post on Chapters 1-3. After a few slight delays, I am pushing past that and really getting into it. AAA comes next. I be making a post on that soon.
