Win 7 PC ipv6 -> Ubuntu Nat64 -> Internet ipv4

Sat Jul 19, 2014 8:42 am

Hi there,

I have a project with implementation of ipv6 networking. And several weeks I spent on findying a solution for one problem...
Here is the short description:
Windows 7 PC with ipv6 adress should be connected to Ubuntu PC, where with the help of Tayga, NAT64 will be performed. Then, Ubuntu goes to Internet via second eth-port ipv4. Both system were implemented on VirtualBox. The diagram you can find here: http://postimg.org/image/83q2iioyn/

The problem is that Win 7 PC doesn't see Internet via Ubuntu. I tried to change Network adapters in VirtualBox, used iptables in Ubuntu and it's not help. I can ping only ubuntu and vice versa.
If someone has experience in this field, please, advice, because this kind of task is new for me. I used a lot of tutorials regarding to this problem without a success. Also, an access to PC (where the project is established) can be provided via TeamViewer.

Thank you in advance.
Looking forward for your reply.

Cool stuff you're doing there. I have zero experience doing nat64/tayga stuff.

So iptables & ip6tables looks good? Forward chain in both (if necessary) is correct?

Hmmm only other thing I can think of right now is if ipv4/v6 forwarding is on in sysctl.conf (or it's equiv). Not sure how that comes into play since/if nat64 is in action.

Well I didn't help much but something to check....if not already.

Does your Tayga works properly? In the description it is said it is stateless only. Does your Win7 has the default gateway set to the Ubuntu? Can you reach the server from the Ubuntu box?
Consider changing the IPv6-to-IPv4 app, maybe a dual-stack proxy?

What happens if you try to "ping 2a03:2880:2130:cf05:face:booc:0:1" (sorry I couldn't find a smaller IP address, but maybe "ping -6 facebook" will work)? Does it work?

I replied to this post but the mods haven't approved yet. I realized I confused nat64 with 6to4 and apologize in advance ;D
