I just finished mine on comparing the transfer times of normal traffic against a light VPN and a full strength VPN.
You need to write a script that measures the transfer times and then compare them.

Why they skipped IPv5.

J/k.....uhhh.....

a. Demonstrate TCP throughput using various traffic generators, host operating system, router queueing mechansims.
b. Demonstrate a minimal interruption in a migrating from ipv4 to ipv6. Fancy it up with some of that QA/ITIL crap floating around.
c. Make a virtual lab (dynamips/gns3/qemu servers & end hosts) and trace out step by step what happens when an end-user types in http://www.example.com. E.g. arp, dns, tcp open, blah blah.
d. Find out some initiative at your uni/school network dept. & volunteer to be a contributor/researcher then report on it.

HTH.

thanks david , but for the script that measures the transfer times, i would like to know what will be the importance by studying or knowing that?

Thanks timhalo , for all the topic that you gave i don't understand some and i can't read it clearly . Please could you write it again and suggested others if possible.

thanks again guys

I used SCP, (RCP no longer supported), between 2 linux machines. Why linux machines, easier to manipulate. I then used the verbose output of transfers done with SCP across a VPN and I then extracted the time taken and total amount tranferred and was able to manipulate those figures so I could then show the differences in transfer times. The whole thing went through 2 switches and 3 routers.

If you are doing a final project with networking it's much easier to use linux machines to take measurements, IMO.
Although if you don't want to study scripting then it's a waste of time.

I did mine on IPv6 Security. Not many people know a thing, so it's easy to fake them into thinking you did a lot of research and shit. ;)

packet speed, or delay is very important,

take the financial business sector. stock trading companies, for example, there is coming news about a CEO being investigated in XYZ company. trading on the NYSE, Here in NY it takes 10ms for trade to be submitted
From London 50ms and from Hong Kong, 150ms, so when that news about the CEO hits the street,
I can be the first one in and sell my stock in XYZ company in 10ms, while the poor suckers in London
and Hong Kong loose their shirts because their trades get in after the stock has tanked.
