Hi,

It seems my Cisco 1140 AP only runs at 54 mbps.. Anybody know how I can configure to get higher speeds..?

I have both radios turned on, and the client has .11n nic, but i only log traffic on the 2.4GHz band.

Is it possible that you client adapter is .11N but only operates on the 2.4ghz freq. range?

You either have to have an open SSID or configure WPA2/AES to ensure you can connect at .11n speeds. So check those settings.

int dot11radio 0
encryption mode ciphers aes-ccm

Assuming your key is compatible, you shoukd be able to connect above 54Mbs

Hi,

1140 do have two radio,
one is int dot11radio0
another one is int dot11radio1

put the same configuration for your interface dot11radio1, as dot11radio1 is for 5ghz, that is N

Not always. The 1140 can have two radios, but that's only the 1142 model. 1141s only have a single 2.4GHz radio.

OP: I know this is an old thread, but it's worth mentioning that the 300Mbps throughput mentioned in docs and stuff is really only possible with 40MHz channels, which you probably don't have configured. 40MHz channels aren't compatible with legacy equipment, so the only way you can use them is if all your clients are 802.11n. However, even without 40MHz channels, you should theoretically be able to achieve 144Mbps (M15 with a 400ns GI), but it looks like that's not being negotiated properly from your client. Post a config of the access point if you can.

I'd like to resurrect this if I may to see if we can arrive at a solution as I have a similar issue with 802.11N on 1142 autonomous AP's. It goes like this:-
I am running several autonomous 1142 AP's. No LAN Controller (I know, I know...) and I'd like to improve throughput by using 802.11N.
In the lab, I have already tried adding the identical config from Radio0 to Radio1 as suggested above, but this caused both Radio interfaces to reset and stay admin down as well as causing BVI1 to go to admin down. I tried to shut / no shut the interfaces but to no avail. Returning the AP to it's original state allowed me to contact the AP in all the usual ways but only using 802.11B/G. Any ideas?

Cracked it.
It was exactly as posted above by n3wbi3s. Copy the dot11rado0 config to the dot11rad1 interface, including all sub-ifs. Then swap the encrption from TKIP to aes-ccm. Tell the users the encryption used is WPA2-Personal and for me at least, it's all good. I can connect, ping, telnet etc. Noow to move it from the lab to site :0

Cool. When I ran into this, it was quite surprising to me that you have to use WPA2 to enable N.

Especially when the CLI lists it as WPA with no actual WPA2 config option, rather they use the difference between TKIP and AES-CCM for reasons that escape me. Maybe someone else can shed some light?
Personally, I accept that there will be something that doesn't seem to make sense and resign myself to trawling the various boards for hours to find the answer :0

This is the command you use to tell it WPA2:

authentication key-management wpa version 2
