do gns3 do a portable app that i could carry on a memory stick?
i have to carry packet tracer on one so i can do stuff at work, but it would be handy to have gns3 aswell.

I should say that I was looking on freeccnaworkbook.com for a how to but I thought it was only for that particular setup...am I wrong in stating that?

This was perfect timing! I'm planning on taking the ICND1 exam in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks Scott!

One of the answers for Lab 4 is confusing me. At the very end, it asks if R2 can ping 10.120.120.121.

Once I finished the lab, I attempted the ping, which failed (as I expected - the routing configuration given to R2 is all host-based routes that go directly to the other routers, not their networks). However, the answers sheet says it should be able to ping 10.120.120.121. Am I missing something here?

Greetings...

I'm new to this and have a few questions.

1. I have Packet Tracer. Do I need to use GNS3 and/or Dynagen as well?
2. If so, how do I get those set up?
3. I've been trying to do the packet tracer labs and am not figuring out some of what to do (new to packet tracer as well). Has there been a "walkthrough" or example exercise posted using one of the labs?.

As you can probably guess, I simply don't know what I'm doing and need a little "hand-holding" to get started..

Not sure why you resurrected a 2 year old thread.

But to answer your questions, Packet Tracer is more than adequate to simulate ICND1 (CCENT) and CCNA R&S labs. GNS3/Dynagen is great if you want to try *ALL* the commands supported by a particular Cisco IOS image to test out or prototype a network design.

Like all good programs Packet Tracer has extensive Help, have you looked at it? There are many tutorials that will lead you through different steps and scenarios. And of course there is your Cisco Networking Academy instructor; he/she can direct you to the explicit PT activities that are embedded in the curriculum of your courses.

Well, this was the thread that came up on my web search and led me to this site. I have been looking through the help files and have been able to figure out part of it.

Thanks for the response.

HTH though to get the most from PT it is best use it in a structured way. This is where the activities in the NetAcad curriculum really help. What course are you doing?
Also have a look under Files - Saves for lots of examples.

Great labs. The only thing that has me hitting my head against the wall is how did you figure out the subnet mask in Lab 4. It is probably very easy, but I am a newbie (I am going for the CCENT in 2 weeks).
Sorry for bringing up a dead post.
