i am looking to see if there is dedicated IP address that is not and guaranteed to be NOT pingable which I can use it in my script to prevent accidental logging to some other server. I am wondering if there is any standard IP address? Still got me thinking. Thanks!
RFC 1918 private addresses should not be routable on the public internet. If you are using the full range of 10.x.x.x, 172.16.x.x-172.31.x.x, and 192.168.x.x networks, then you're out of luck. But if you have a range in those networks that you're not using on your network, then those IPs will be unpingable, generally speaking. I make that qualification because someone could conceivably think of an end-run around my flat statement, but that would be an exotic case.
Take a baseball bat and trash all the routers, shout out "IT'S A NETWORK PROBLEM NOW, SUCKERS!" and then peel out of the parking lot in your Ferrari.
