I am interested in determining the best equipment to use and configuration for a new voip and data network.

In my situation I need to use existing cat5 data runs for data and voip using the built in switch and pc port on the phones. I will have two Internet services, one for VoIP and one for data. So, whatever method/equipment is used the voice always needs to go through the ISP for voice and never get sent over the data ISP I will purchase the necessary switch and router(s) based on what is required. There will be 15 - 20 users, for a maximum of 30 - 40 devices (phones and computers). There won't be a server on-site.

In the picture below there I am proposing two potential solutions. I haven't labelled the gear with make/model. I am sure that the configuration is very dependent on the proprietary os of the switches and routers used to put the whole thing together.

Can anyone prescribe a solution for equipment and configuration?
Can anyone tell me if I should be using VLANS and whether this is the best way to ensure that the voice Internet service is always used for voice?

If this has been covered in another post please point me in the right direction.

so the second line is to the internet? not your phone service provider for outbound calling over POTS?

Yes, one ISP for data (computer data requests) and one for VoIP Calls from the IP telephones.

yes, you will want to use voice vlans, data vlan for data, voice vlan for voice,
based on the ip address, as they should be on different networks, you can
route traffic to specific gateways towards the internet. so voice traffic
goes to the voice gateway over the voice isp, data goes to the data gateway
towards the data isp.

what type of phone system will you be using for call management, phone management, dialing plans, etc?

Thanks for the reply.

A hosted PBX provider will be used, I haven't been told the specific platform or company yet.

So what make/model of managed switch can set up vlans based on ip address? or, maybe mac address? and then specify a gateway for each vlan?

setup vlans for each,
gateway can be on a L3 switch or a router
setup DHCP for the phone and pc's
configure switch ports for voice vlans,
we use cisco 3560's here, there may cheaper models, but I'm not sure.
test test test

as foir phones, you will probably want to find out the sysm and use compatible phone,
not all phone are 100$ compatible with regard to features and feature support,
speaking of which, your exec's and exec admins will probably want higher end phones that support multiple lines, and the
peons a basic level phone with one line. if you have a switchboard or admin answering the main line, you'll need to get a phone for that too.

So the 3560 can map ip to vlan instead of physical switch port to vlan?
The reason I ask is that the phones and computers will be sharing the same cat5 run back to the equipment room, so the inbound port on the switch will be the same.

The 3560's can map the voice and data vlan to the one switchport, using switchport access vlan ___ and switchport voice vlan ___ commands. With that the phones (assuming Cisco) will work with the packets to make sure that the data vlan goes to the computer from the extra port on the phone. I have used both 3560's and 3750's for this, haven't touched by 3550's in my lab yet but I am pretty sure they should also do the same (a quick google to Cisco's website and I am 99% sure they will). I would suggest not using the 3750's, I think they would be a little overkill and raise the budget for you.

It could be different brands of phones like Cisco, Aastra, Polycom, Snom, or Grandstream. So, I am hoping for a solution that will map IP to vlan - regardless of what type of device it is (could be anything).
