Hello all,

I have a DSL modem with 4 LAN ports. 3 of these ports are connected to 3 computers and they are networked together and to the Internet well. The fourth port is connected to the WAN (Internet) interface of my Access Point (AP). The AP has also 4 LAN ports which is connected to 4 computers and several other computers are also connected to AP via Wi-Fi. All devices connected to AP (through LAN or Wi-Fi) have access to the Internet and to each other.

The problem is that, devices on AP cannot connect to devices on DSL router and vice versa. How can I resolve this problem?

Thanks,
Payman

does the AP do any NAT? Maybe you're using the same subnet on your LAN as behind the AP, and it doesnt bridge?

I don't know whether it do only NAT or not. I'm using the same subnet on LAN for both DSL and AP ports. How can I bridge them?! I'm using D-Link DIR-618.

Thanks,
Payman

DIR-618 looks like your standard home wifi router so it'll most likely NAT. Try using a different subnet behind the AP.

Would you please explain more? A different subnet for AP LAN ports? Why? What should it be like?

If the AP doesnt bridge, you can't use the same subnet on the AP LAN ports as the DSL LAN ports if you want them to communicate with eachother.

in the cisco world you would connect your ap to a trunk link and bridge your vlans together to it.

If I choose different subnets for AP and DSL LAN ports, should they be connected? AP's interface addresses are populated by DHCP. They get IP from DSL router. Should I change it?

maybe u have different vlans...
check ur modem and disable this feature or create 1 vlan for all ports if possible.
can you ping every one or not ? i mean the ones who are behind Ap ?

I chose 192.168.1.0/24 for AP and 192.168.2.0/24 for DSL router. DHCP is turned on on both devices. All devices have access to the Internet and to each other. It is a complete network! :)
