Server on home network

Sun Jul 10, 2016 2:19 pm

Hello
I have attached a picture so it is easier to know what I mean when I explain things about my network.

Basically all I need to know is, the location of my server, can i use it as a DHCP server to make sure all of my PCs on the network, whether they are wired or wireless, will work with the server.

I want to turn off my routers DHCP server, and make my server do everything.

I am unable to edit the DNS server on the router as it is factory from BT, but other than this, is it possible to do the layout I need and allow the server to control everything I may need it to do in the future, ie routing all internet activity through it?

Thanks

From my point of view, to connect the server via WLAN is not the best idea, give it a wire instead, if you can. Otherwise if the WLAN AP is not transferring the DHCP packets, you could get stucked and no one gets an IP, especially when the WLAN APs are routers as well with a built in firewall an hidden NAT.
