Hi All,
I've been in network hell for about a week, now. I started this project as just a wipe, reinstall, and update of Windows XP on a friend's Dell Optiplex 755 desktop. Everything looked like it was going to be a problem-free favor that I've done many times for other friends.

Unfortunately, it has been everything but, problem-free. First, I couldn't get the wireless network connection to connect once I installed the Belkin Wireless Adapter and drivers, then I downloaded and installed XP SP3 and some Dell drivers. Next, I decided to try to Share Internet Connection from my Windows 7 machine to the XP machine. I was so happy when the XP machine actually opened up a live Internet browser. I immediately went to Windows Update to start updating the machine and it WON'T do any update downloads from Microsoft or Dell.

When I looked at the Events for what might be causing it I saw a TCP/IP error saying, "TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts."

Now, networking is NOT my thing and I'm ready to go and jump off a cliff somewhere but, I can really use someone's help!

I've Googled and YouTube and I think they have gotten me as far as I can go.

Reinstall Windows, patch it, etc, and then install the wifi drivers and finally the card. Sometimes that's a lot more hassle free than Googling Event Viewer codes and errors.

I have reinstalled, patched, reinstalled the wifi drivers and the adapter and no luck. However, I'm starting to rethink this problem, with shared Internet connection via cable I'm can get on the Internet. My true problem AT THIS POINT is I can't get to the Microsoft Updates. I was able to do some update with Dell (finally) and now I thinking that the Microsoft Update issue maybe permission or enable needle somewhere in the haystack.

Problem SOLVED!!!! I ended-up having to go back to the drawing board on this and start from scratch again... this would be my third time. This time I deleted the partition and re-formatted before re-installing the operating system something I didn't do the first two times (duh, not feeling too bright right now... lol). Now, everything is working and I was able to get my Updates and it can use a wireless connection now.

That one is a done deal, stick a fork in it. Now, I'm turning my attention to the second one I was brought with the first one. I thought during my battle with the first one that the second couldn't possibly be any worse. Well, that will teach me to make assumptions!! The second one doesn't even POST when turned on. It acts like the hard drive is DOA. I only brought my head up for a breath of air and to let you guys know how everything turned out with the first PC.
