Hi, My first post on here and I'm going out on a bit of a limb here as i don't have access to all information (currently at work) but here goes.

I had a SpeedTouch 580 Modem/Router which was set up fine. My PC worked wirelessly from upstairs, whilst my Xbox was hardwired into the router and all worked fine, that was until, a storm fried my wireless modem/router.

I've just bought a DLink DSL2740R. I've hardwired both PC and Xbox for the time being so i could work on the router settings, here is my problem, the router is set up to issue IP's, when i turn on my PC, no problem, the router issues an IP and the computer can access the router and the internet. However, when i fire up the Xbox i get issued with a 169.254.xxx.xxx IP address which from what i understand means DHCP isn't working, but this can't be the case as the PC is being issued an IP with no problems. :?

Has anybody got any ideas what the issue could be? Please give me any suggestions to try when i get home tonight, as i spent roughly 4 hours last night trying to figure this out to no avail.

Thanks in advance.

Couple options you can try. Take the cord that is being used for the xbox and plug into the PC. This will verify that the patch cable is good to go. If that tests fine, then plug the PC into the same port that xbox is in on the switch/router. This will verify if the port is bad on the device. Other than that, you will need to poke around in the settings on the device and on the xbox.

Thanks, i figured as much. I've already tried both of those suggestions. I'm starting to think that my best option is to reset my network (PC, Router and Xbox) back to factory settings and set it all up from scratch. Fingers crossed i get it working tonight.
