long time listener, first time caller. so, I'm looking at an HP DL360 G4 server for GNS3 purposes. Dual 3.4GHz Xeon, 4GB RAM, 2x 36gb scuzzys. Just looking to get myself through CCNP with a few 3550/3560s. let me know if it will suffice. thanks much. I can swap out the HDDs as needed, not a problem.

Running Linux + Dynamips, you could probably get 10-20 routers out of that easily. You might consider some more RAM, but if you're just looking for CCNP practice, you shouldn't need too many routers going at once.

good deal Don Corleone. I value your opinion just about as good as the best on this site (which you are).

Do some research, a couple of the DL360 models have fan issues and they sound like a plane taking off unless you install the Windows drivers. I suppose you could just unplug them or replace them with something quieter but just a heads up unless of course you're planning on dynamips under Win32.

4GB is more than enough. I have 4GB in mine and I barely touch the second 2GB chip

MY box can take 40+ routers. It's a cheap AMD Athlon X4 chip with cheap 4GB ram.

burnyd, you're doing something wrong if you can only run 10-15. Have you idlepc'd correctly?

c3745-adventerprisek9-mz.124-25b.bin most of the time.

If I'm running a really big lab, most routers won't need a huge IOS, especially if they are acting as nodes. Smaller IOS's will use far less ram. Most people just put the biggest IOS image they have in their labs.
