Cisco wic-1dsu-56k4 to Cisco wic-1du56k4

Tue Jan 31, 2012 6:47 pm

Can someone please explain to me how to make a Cisco back to back cable to connect two cisco wic-1dsu-56k4 to each other in a lab? I not sure how to tell what the pin numbers are to if you can explain it by color code and by pin numbers so I can learn both that would help me a lot.

thanks

sure.

it will be a cross over so here we go:
for 56k

if you are looking at the top of the rj45 plug the pin numbers are left to right 1-8

the pin out for 56k is 1 - 7 2 - 8
wires 3 - 6 can go straight thru.

1 - 7
2 - 8
3 - 3
4 - 4
5 - 5
6 - 6
7 - 1
8 - 2

Does it matter what colors you use? Is there a standard that should be followed?
Or can I just do it like this?

1: orange
2: orange/white
3:Blue
4: blue/white
5:Green
6:green/white
7:Brown
8:brown/white

Orange------------------Brown
Orange/white-----------Brown/white
Blue---------------------Blue
Blue/white--------------Blue/white
Green-------------------Green
Green/white------------Green/white
Brown-------------------Orange
Brown/white------------Orange/white

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions

colors dont matter at all. its just wires so as long as the pinout is correct for the connection you are fine.

color coding pinouts is important in an industrial setting when you make Ethernet cables and you need to follow the EIA/TIA 586 standard and that really is only good for identifying cables.

standards are used and pairs twisted in such a way so that crosstalk is reduced/eliminated within the wire.
