No Internet Access

Thu Feb 16, 2017 3:02 pm

I have a Cisco 1841 router.

The router's internal port (fa 0/1) is configured with a 10.10.10.1/24 and the external port (fa 0/0) is configured DHCP (get an IP from ISP).

After plugging in my laptop into port fa 0/1, I can not get internet access. My laptop has an IP address if 10.10.10.3/24. Right now I'm just trying to ping 8.8.8.8 (google.com).

What am I doing wrong? I have a good concept of computer networking, but I've just never used Cisco's equipment yet. All of the link lights are on (FDX, 100 & Link).

Thanks,
Thank you,
Finsfree

Hi Finsfree,

Hard to say with the limited amount of information that we have. How is the laptop getting an IP address? Are you statically configuring it or are you getting it via DHCP as well? What is your default-gateway on the laptop? does the router have reachability to the internet? Can the router ping 8.8.8.8. Is your NAT working and correctly configured on the router?

Regards,
R.
