Problems accessing ASDM launch page from Windows 7

Fri Oct 28, 2011 1:41 pm

Hello,

I'm trying to setup a new Cisco ASA 5505. I performed the "config factory-default" command and subsequently pulled an IP from my ASA. However, I am unable to pull up the ASDM GUI launch page using IE9, Google Chrome, or Firefox using my Windows 7 computer. Using Wireshark, I can see that I'm getting a TLSv1 handshake failure.

I fired up a Windows XP VM inside of Virtual Box to see if it would work better. Turns out my XP VM with IE 8 pulls up the ASDM launch page without a problem.

Any ideas why my Windows 7 system can't pull up the ASDM launch page?

Thanks,
Rob

I thik I read somewhere before that certain versions of Java either need to be installed or uninstalled for SDM on win7.
Good Luck,

ASDM and SDM are two very different beasts.

Yes, but both are equally picky about Java.

Try installing the ADSM then running it as administrator, I seem to remember my colleague having a similar problem with Windows 7... Or you could try the CLI :P

Its a problem with Java, I never got it to work quite right on every Linux based os I had the only os I had it working properly on was XP. But from what I remember a couple of guys where I used to work accessed it over windows 7. Im assuming you updated to the latest Java version.

Yup. It's a HUGE issue with Cisco's CTC. I was glad to see some of my new lab equipment use flash rather than java.

Hello,

Thanks for all the replies. However, I'm not having a Java issue. At least, not yet. On my Windows 7 system, I never see anything displayed in the browser when trying to communicate with the firewall. It looks like the page just stalls. On my WinXP system, I get a certificate error first. After the certificate error page, I'm given a page displaying a choice to install or running ASDM.

Why am I not at least getting to the certificate error page on my Windows 7 system? Again, using Wireshark I see that I'm getting some kind of TLSv1 handshake failure immediately after the three way handshake.

Thanks!

Hello,

I recently got a question on my solution. It's been a while, but I believe the fix action was performing a "crypto key generate rsa".

I hope that helps,

I also had a similar problem, but installing jre-6u7-windows-i586-p solved it for me :D
