Trying to learn ASA.

Currently reading Cisco ASA 5500 Series Configuration Guide http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/securit ... onfig.html
But it's dry reading IMO.

Thinking about this: CCNP Security FIREWALL 642-618 Quick Reference @ http://www.informit.com/store/product.a ... 158714316X

Anyone picked up that Quick Ref guide?
Any good for a beginners perspective?

I don't need it for passing a test...just need to know how to generally navigate around in ASA.
(and config stuff w/out leaving a gaping security hole).

this book is old, only covers 8.2 release

the FIREWALL OCG is a good place to start, may even get you to a point where you can take the test.
doesn't include VPN and IPS thpo'

the 5500 cli guide is a dry read, covers alot, I read as part of my FIREWALL studies.

+1 on this book, I got it and other people in my office liked it enough they are planning on getting a copy. But as mentioned it doesn't cover the latest stuff, so on stuff that's changed it's worthless... and there were alot of changes (NAT and port forwarding especially)
