UDLD is a sham 300-115

Mon Apr 04, 2016 10:23 pm

UDLD is a total sham. It would seem that the only possible way it would be of any use is on fiber links that are LX where the GLC would loose power and not transmit enough dbm.
Myself and 2 colleagues (both CCIE-RS) could not re-create a proper UDLD err-disabled state and are at a loss as to how you can really lab up UDLD to make it worthwhile.
Neither of them really felt is was a worth wile config in any scenario and I have to agree with them. I even SPAN'd it and could not capture UDLD frames (with encap repl set)

I do of course want to hear what others think.
UDLD is USELESS!
