Good afternoon forum,
I got myself in a little hole. We just got a new Netgear GS748TP 48 port switch that I installed. We have a Cisco 2821 with Vlans setup on them. I connected the switch and its powering all the phones..but the phones are receiving 192.168.100.xxx Ip's when they should be receiving 192.168.200.XXX ip's. Anyone able to help me please. I've been off very little sleep and would really appreciate any help.

Could do with a bit more information regarding the voice vlan config

Having a guess, would you happen to have a dhcp pool which is kicking out the incorrect addresses configured on the 2821?

Our router is set for Vlan 100, 200, 210, 211. The PC will get 192.168.100.xxx and phones 192.168.200.xxx. Here is the Old Cisco switch config which was a 3560. It burnt up and now we have the Netgear GS748TP.

well if it worked fine with the 3560 and it doesn't with this new netgear switch, then there is your problem...

obviously something is a miss with the netgear config. no experience of netgear switches or the IOS they run, you could print it out here and see if anyone else can lend a hand.

It seems to not be differentiating between the data and voice vlans and is assigned the data vlan address to the ip phones

Can you paste your config for the netgear? It looks like you need to configure a voice vlan on the netgear, if it supports it.

I read the title in a panicked voice and then "Good afternoon" in a calm smooth jazz radio dj voice.

Ha ha, yes Emergency!! Well I ended up figuring it out. Trunking in Netgear is different then trunking in Cisco. What I needed to do was create the dot1q vlans (100,200) then TAG them to all the ports. Then you have to tie the 200 Vlan to a voice Vlan configuration by OUI. This also fixed my wireless AP which are set on a dotq1 210,211,212 Vlans on my cisco router. I created the Vlans and TAGGED them to all the ports. YAY for me and thank you all for assisting at such a late time. I LOVE THIS FORUM!! :D

see i told you the fault was with the netgear

I wouldn't have known where to start the the ios commands on a netgear, cisco only here with a little bit or nortel thrown in, glad you figured it out

When you've learned about VLANs atr trunks the Cisco way then Netgear switches are most confusing.

Netgear app note on connecting multiple VLANs

Also another thing to be wary of - if you have any instances of spanning tree, Netgear only runs one instance, unlike Cisco's per-VLAN spanning tree (PVST).

you've got yerself a little routing issue too.

Code:
router eigrp 100
eigrp stub connected summary
network 10.1.10.0 0.0.0.255
network 192.168.100.0

I don't think netgears have come around to support EIGRP yet.

Same with HP ProCurves, and how they handle tagging on a port mirror. Oh, and Dell PowerConnects...

Just out of curiosity, you didn’t actually copy the config from the 3560 switch to the netgear switch did you?

I really despise how they have to do their vlans and such. What a Mess!

interface 0/10
vlan pvid 254
vlan participation include 110
vlan tagging 110
vlan participation include 254
exit

This config does work if it's on any help. 254 is the data vlan and 110 is the voice

Some day... when Cisco wins 100% of the market... just like Taco Bell will win the restaurant market (It was foretold in Demolition Man), we'll just copy configs between firewalls, routers, switches; it wont matter! It will be glorious!

Not sure how you figure this with their separate market and engineering teams. I can choose from the ASA OS, NX-OS, IOS-XR, IOS.

However I too believe in Demolition Man and the prophecy for told. The first chapter has come true with Arnold moving into politics. It's only a matter of time before he's president.
