Just received our new 6513E chassis and I am setting it up in the lab for testing.
I had a post earlier about migrating from 6509 to 6513 and there was alot of talk about
the new 6513E chassis, luckily I had some budget to buy an "E" class chassis so I did, but...

For prod we would like to run..

1 maybe 2 6704 10 gig cards

3 - 5 6748 cards

1 6724 SFP card

Sup720 setup, possibly upgrading to Sup32's in a few years

Right now for power supplies, I am using 2 WS-CAC-2500W

But I have to run the supplies in combined mode to get all of the cards online.

What power supply should I be looking to purchase for this chassis ?

Cheers

Dave

Don't use the 4000W power supplies unless you have to. The cords don't come off these units, so it's a big hassle to swap them out when they fail. 6000W units are preferable IMO.

Your plan calls for "maybe" 7 cards with dual fabric interconnects (6704 and 6748). You're not going to be able to run all of those with this setup.

SUP32 will not support the 6700 series cards.

do you mean upgrade to a SUP-2T?

id go with 2 6000 Watt powers. should work for you just fine

We utilize the 6000W's in our 7609's. I don't think there is anything bigger at the moment but I could be mistaken.

It's most commonly used with dense POE deployments.

Thanks everyone for the input..

For some reason I thought the Sup32's were the upgrade to the 720's...so learned a thing or 2 there :)

I'll checkout the pricing on the 6000w supplies.
Power Calculator says that should be ample for the config I would like to run.

I looked at the 8700w, that thing is a beast.. I think it would need its own cooling tower...lol

Thanks again

Dave

Yes it is. First time I put one in, I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't seat all the way into the chassis. I slammed it in progressively harder until I finally figured out that it's a couple of inches longer than the other ones

I thought the 6000W was for PoE deployments. We use 2500W with PoE only on the 1U switches.

I ordered a couple of the 6000w versions....That should be good for the life of the 6513E...I hope :)

Cheers
