Re: New Design Released!

Thu Apr 10, 2014 2:45 pm

Here's an update.
fixed:
  • fonts darkened and layout adjsuted for better legibility and no more headaches
  • Buttons should all be back (view new posts, edit posts, quote, quick reply)
  • white space tightened up
  • widths fixed so they aren't variable
  • column headers now appearing in forum list
  • scratched vanilla forums off the list of products to evaluate

fixing:
  • Adding back subscribe to forum & subscribe to thread buttons
  • Thread page numbers on forum index screens

Quick reply at the bottom of the thread is still missing.

I know this is getting picky but I never hit the forum homepage. I usually start at active post and then jump straight to view your post.

Any way to put all those link in the sub-head with the search so they are available on all pages?

Also thanks for taking the feedback and putting it in place.

post content is darkened  but i think thats not going far enough - all the light grey (dates etc) has to go as well IMO

Better... but still feels a bit painful. I think mute is right - all of the light grey (text, lines, etc.) needs to be darker.

Any chance of this being added?

yes! on the current list.

1. adding the view (my,unanswered, active, new) links in a more permanent & accessible spot
2. another contrast bump
3. mark all as read on forum index pages & subpages

We're getting there. I'm enjoying the quick reply RIGHT NOW.

Still way too much whitespace.

I know this site is a work in progress with all the requested changes, but this is just butt ugly.

@ristau5741 you caught us mid update. Refresh & you'll see that's the view posts (unanswered, active, new, your posts).

Update:
increased contrast on lines & text again
decreased whitespace in places
moved the view post options into the VIEW dropdown by the searchbox - so it's present on all pages & removes some whitespace
added mark as viewed on index and sub-index pages

I haven't been pleased so far, but since most functionality is back (view your posts, quick reply), it's okay now.
Still don't like the colors but that's a matter of personal taste. It's clearly readable so that's fine.

I don't see quote buttons however, you guys do?

another issue on the list o things to do, noticed this yesterday when recovering my password, emails sourced from spish.net.
PM notifications may also be that way, but since I can't PM myself, I can't test.

while I'm at it, the captcha thing is flaky, after a few login attempts i started having to enter the captcha answers, but they only show up on every other login attempt.

Try a fresh reload of the page with F5, worked for me.

I have found Steam forums (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/) to be the most easy on eyes, especially during night.

(Oh, I didn't realize we had no option to make a text point to a link so I could avoid putting up the whole link thus wasting space  )

Any chance a dark theme is possible ? Just two themes are enough. Something in a darker shade with equally pleasing design as the current one would be preferred

When I get a PM, I'd like a link to that PM on the forums, say in the bar at the top. As it is, I have to drill into my control panel if I don't follow the link in the email that's sent to me when I get a PM.
