site cleanup today

Fri Nov 18, 2011 11:19 am

I am going to remove the social media buttons (tweet, like, +1) from the forum posts. I don't think people are using them and the JS needed to have these slows down page loads which in turn hurts the site's SEO. I will continue to put these on blog posts and individual pages like the practice subnetting page.

Please feel free to comment and definitely let me know if you see site issues.

I'll post up when the changes are complete.

Thanks!

Ok, all done for now. I removed as much script from the forum's header as possible, put the social media code in a separate file to be called by individual pages and deployed it on all single pages and the blog single.php page.

Great idea, I wish there was an easy way to tweet the good news...

I put them there when I saw this:

paadams wrote:Just liked the page. Didn't know you had one.

:)

Figured I needed to advertise them a bit more.

Sorry man, I don't want to open that can of worms. I only made the exception (begrudgingly) to promote forum stuff. Don't hate me.

You should have said yes, as long as they are the same links you have.

I could probably edit the welcome email sent to new users or something, but I don't want the site filled with sig links.

I never really found a use for those social items all over the place. Seems when I do want to share something it is usually on my phone, which has the options embedded into the applications client to begin with.
