Can you guess what it does? :)

It works fine on a breadboard so I've ordered a small project board and box. I'll start building it up when those arrive.

My understanding of electricity is pretty bad, but if I had to guess id say that the buzzer sounds when the water level gets to low?

is this another hint Steve?

or, since you've been thinking alot about electricity lately,
maybe the deciphering has something to do with electricity.

I think it electrocutes Ian's testicles when all the water evaporates.

I just thought you liked me. :) BTW, there are no external clues to that contest.

It's a water detection circuit. I'm building it to put in my hot water tank drain pan to alert me if it starts to leak.

The circuit is completed when the 2 leads are in water. My initial design wouldn't work because water is a poor conductor unless it contains particles to allow the current to flow through it. I tested that by adding a bit of salt to the water, but I couldn't rely on the water being detected having particles in it. So, I added the transistor to use the small amount of current that will go through 'pure' water to close the circuit through the transistor and trigger the buzzer. I also added the switch as an alternative way to close the circuit to test the battery.

I don't know a whole lot about electrics either. But wouldn't the above sound when in water and not sound when out? Or does the water create the circuit which prevents power to the buzzer?

Yes, it sounds when the leads are in water.

Just re-read where you plan on putting it - the drain pan so you're wanting to know if there is any water in the drain pan and to alert you if so. Nice work. I was thinking wouldn't it be a little annoying if you had it in the water tank..
