Had an interview yesterday at 11am for a systems engineer/vmware position, that I thought went pretty well. The recruiter called me back at 2:30 saying the company wanted to make me an offer and if I'd except $xx salary. I said yes of course, it's 20 miles closer to home and a 10k bump. So now I'm just waiting on their HR dept. to contact me and make it all official. The wait is killing me. I keep thinking they'll change their mind.

Will be a good step up from where I'm at Now. I'm supporting all infrastructure here, network, storage and about 250 servers total including VMs. This place has about 60 hosts and 4000 VMs and growing. It will be busy and stressful but should be a lot of fun. I'm hoping to do some network stuff, but it won't be much. They have their own network engineers. I'm just glad I'll get out of this hell hole.

You in the Houston area? I will tell you though, that if I had a friend looking, I would not recommend this job to him unless he was unemployed and really needed something.

No, I was just kidding. But maybe there's someone out there that would jump on the opportunity.

Congrats on the job. My wife just did the same thing yesterday. It sounds almost identical, but she isn't in TX. She is currently waiting for the letter so she can give notice at her current job. Then we will be off this weekend to go look at apartments for her.

Nice. Hopefully they get her squared away soon.

I emailed the recruiter earlier and she said the hiring manager put the request in yesterday afternoon so I should hear from HR today and it should move pretty fast but I haven't gotten a call yet. Freaking killing me, I'm not a patient person.

Go punch your current boss in the face. Burn a bridge or two.

I'd consider it if she wasn't a woman.

Did they make it official yet?

My wife got her letter this morning, and turned in her notice after lunch. Going to be driving to Pheonix this weekend to look at apartments.

Recruiter says the company has 2 of 3 signatures required to make a written offer but the third is out of the office. They were trying to find someone else that could sign it and have it done by COB tomorrow but realistically I expect it to happen on Tuesday. Holiday weekend is messing it all up.

ETA: Not really any of my business, but if she's your wife why are you looking for an apartment for her? She in school or something?

I would be pulling my hair out having to wait that long.

I am staying in Las Vegas at my current job. She is going to work in Pheonix. Little far for a daily commute. There just are no jobs currently in Vegas for her skill set, and experience. Guessing about a year of living apart, and she can get a job back here. This is fairly common for us. Both of us were in the military, and lived apart for our first 3 years of mariage. Then spent two years together, then a year apart, this will be just over a year and a half together.

It works for us, but alot of people think we are crazy.

That's understandable, I just didn't catch what you said the first time, then noticed your location and apartment hunting in Phoenix.

As the saying goes, absence makes the heart grow fonder. Or something like that.

congrats :)
Wouldnt mind too much regarding the delay even though I can understand, I had the same going on with the Job I am currently working at. But in the end everything did work out.
HR sometimes tend to be slow in such cases, either too much work going on for them or someone important (as in your case) is out of office. Pretty sure there is no changing minds going on anymore.
