So its been a while since I have posted on here. Mainly because my new company blocks just about 99% of web content. But anyway let me get to my situation. I left an okay job to take a new position with a Cisco premier partner, I thought this was a fantastic opportunity. 4 months later I am ready to walk...my biggest problem is the lack of promised training and the way they handle certifications.

I will get right to the point...they encourage the use of dumps to certify engineers to maintain their Cisco partnership. That alone makes me want to quit....there is no training on material its just "study the test, take the test".

I am in talks with my previous employer since they have shown some interest in bringing me back on board (meeting with them on Monday) but I have lost all interest in being here finishing my projects and gaining profit for these cheaters. The work atmosphere plus the brazen cheating is making me mad.

When I do eventually leave...should Cisco be notified of this practice? Would I face legal recourse from my soon-to-be ex employer?

Without evidence on individuals, I don't know if Cisco could do anything, other than revoking the trade partnership. Honestly, I don't even know if they would do that. The certifications that you and I have, are vendor specific to a company with a strong profit motive. Never forget that.

Personally IMHO unless it hurts project performance within your team (which it most likely does) then I would not worry or waste your time with it. If everyone else cheats and you are the only one who really gains the knowledge then you honestly have a leg up on your coworkers. They are really only hurting themselves. Hopefully your boss and the higher ups will notice this pretty quick and start looking to you as a “go-to-guy”. I do understand them not giving you the resources to study but hell there are a ton of companies out there that will not give you anything more-or-less pay for the tests. So that could go either way IMO.

But most likely if they are OK with cutting corners on certs then they are willing to do it other places such as projects and that’s not good. You will be able to see this in the outcome and quality of work in previous projects. So you might be on the right track with moving on.

Its impossible for me to say though what to do when im looking in from the outside…

I find it difficult to work for a company where my morals, and their do not mesh. If I were in, your position I would find another job, and leave as soon as I did. Values have to exist and be similar between the company and the worker(s) in order for a trusting relationship to be established. Sounds like they have already crossed that boundary with you (as they would have with me as well). As for telling Cisco, I probably would tell my local AM/SE if it were me, though I am buddies with most of mine. Thats up to you, cheaters should pay the consequences imo, bottom line is that they suck and they know it.

It's not the first time I've heard of these types of companies

if you report them to cisco, they might do something about their partnership.

Even with reporting it's a difficult thing to prove. Cisco could just take the view that he is a disgruntled ex-employee. They would want evidence.

Though maybe I assume too much. I don't really have any idea

Find out if Cisco has a certification/partnership fraud department and report it to them. They may request specific information (which would probably discourage you from continuing forward altogether) or they would investigate themselves. If they don't have such a department (or it's hard to find), then they probably don't care enough.

I would just leave the company and go on with my business.

Best just exit peacefully on good terms. You never know if bad time will force you to go back.. Just like your last job...

Sadly, this is common.

Cisco certifications are better for marketing than anything else (in these cases).

the people upstairs don't fully understand what goes into exams and certs and that dumping an exam not only devalues the cert, it OVER-values the employee who will face the harsh truth of the industry if they try to get a job elsewhere based on their "Certs"

I know a company that sells gear and says "we are the best because we have CCIE's testing the gear."
that is like saying my restaurant is the best because I have executive chefs waiting tables and washing dishes.
its marketing.
not to mention maintaining gold partnership.

in the end it's business and to be honest, I bet cisco doesn't care because they get the money in the end.

don't waste your time ratting them out. just move on and keep learning .

As much as it sucks I would still try to leave on good terms. Never can tell when a burned bridge can come back to haunt you. Its a small world after all.

It kind sucks but I'd have to agree with this.

Also, in your new job don't slate your ex-employer either :)
