I'm going to wait for Model A to be released. Smaller with no RJ45 port. Wireless is good enough for this thing and it only pulls 2.5 watts

Does the model A still have a USB port?

For 10 bucks difference I'll take the Ethernet and 2 USB. Better deal than having to buy a wifi dongle. And originally A had half the RAM, but they changed that now.

No the Model is exactly the same (they got a new deal that meant they could keep the same amount of memory) but it is missing the USB and RJ45 Ports

I think I'm going to give this a miss now though with the realization that it doesn't have enough memory to run Honeycomb or ICS, although it can handle HD because of its graphics chip there is not a lot of memory to work with

Teebor, look into your Linux Distros. 256MB is not much, but it's enough to do a lot with.

I just found out the other week that I can run Ubuntu properly on my HTC Desire phone. I can also use the USB charging port to not only charge the phone, but connect a USB hub and have keyboards and mice and no doubtedly a USB to serial / console. I would only need to carry around a small battery pack for the usb hub and I could mount the phone inside my ruck sack. The screen is a little small but I think it would be usable for emergency work.

Will I ever do it probability: low.

I'd still like to mess with a Pi though.

Yup problem is that for the applications that I am thinking of I think its going to struggle. Add the difficulty of getting a Model B which has the usb and network ports and its just not going to be worth it.

The Model A is completely not going to support what I want as its missing the ports, and although I could put them back on myself the effort isn't worth it for the benefit.

Android market has a simple app you can download now on to your phone which installs linux on your device really easily, its crazy simple really and works really well. And you can change it around :D so much simpler than doing it by hand like before.
Sadly I am having problems getting the USB support on my phone to work, which is a shame as I have a fantastic use for it but even with the custom firmware. Looks like I'm going to need to splice my own cable together and build a minty boost :D

The little things can run XBMC which is pretty nifty.

Is anyone actually surprised the initial offering got slashdotted? You HAD to see this coming... hopefully with the new vendors there will be more ability to support the demand.

Bluetooth is your friend.

Oh well Mine is ordered, expected delivery date W/C 30/04/2012 soooo only two months to wait if it arrives at that time.

Will be interesting to tinker with, but I don't expect the earth from it. Hopefully I can pick up a cheap touchscreen panel for it

I won't even start looking until I have the device but if I remember I certainly will do :D
You might want to check the Raspberry Pi forums though as I suspect people will post on there where to get good "add-ons"

Yeah, I figured what the hell in the end. Its chump change. If I use it then fine, if I don't then doesn't matter either :D

I'm sure I can figure out something to use it for with a couple of home made arduinos and a touch screen

Also its going to be a Model B and I thought that they had all gone now, but it doesn't look like it :D :D

My ship date got bumped up from May 10 to Apr 3. I'm sure that's not going to be the final date and it's still subject to change.

I am sure none of us are surprised. Till I am holding one, this is another bit of vaporware like that videogame system... (yes, I'll go look it up )

EDIT: That'd be the Infinium Laps Phantom. As it turned out, it was aptly named...

I have a few applications for this little widget:

1: DIY network camera surveillance by way of HD-webcams attached to the board, which is small enough to put it out in the field and run the data back via Cat-6. Have it send the data to a server in the cloud, and if anything ever happens I have pics to prosecute with :)

2: DIY mobile-PC for my truck.

3: XBMC or equivalent

i am sure I will come up with others. For example, I'd love to have a streaming audio server in the house
