All I can think of now is, that thing in a box, in a secure padded part of my engineers bag, some usb to serial adapters for connecting to network kit, wireless keyboard and mouse or some other pointing device and a headset or other kind of screen. Could get a mini projector, or glasses or even a small reused laptop screen. Would be worried about protection though. Condoms aren't padded.

I'm curious what kind of glases you have in mind..

for protection: put it in a small Pelican case. Done. Water/dust/shock proof.

Whoever makes a virtual HUD that projects onto a set of sunglasses without all the "We are BORG!" crapola look to them, will make BILLIONS.

FYI: I know Tigerdirect has visor-mounted displays in the $70USD range... let me see if I can scare up a link...

OK, not Tiger, but first thing I found... and it's almost half the price... http://www.google.com/products/catalog? ... HgQ8gIwAg#

Looks bad ass, I wish it had WiFi built in though. I know you can just plug in a USB dongle, it'd be nice on board though. If I had a use for one I'd certainly buy one. :)

So we needed a new TV to replace our old 25" CRT at the house (yes, what kind of geek doesn't have a flatscreen bigscreen TV? This guy, till last night ;) )...

Brought home a 40" LCD flatscreen last night with USB, 3 HDMIs, composite in/out, S-video, blah blah blah...

Yes, having an HDMI port was a requirement, mostly because of the availability of the RPi...

Can't wait till these come out- I will definitely be grabbing a couple! 4XPC use, XBMC, and who knows what else!

Just came across this explanation in a bit-tech.net article on it.

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/pcs/20 ... m-machine/

Quote:
there is one minor caveat: the ARM chip at the heart of both models runs on the somewhat outdated ARMv6 instruction set, rather than the more modern ARMv7. As a result, certain software - including Ubuntu Linux and Adobe Flash Player - simply won’t run without significant work.

Check out this info- apparently the RPi is more powerful than an Iphone 4s...

So apparently they updated yesterday. The RPi "B" is supposed to be on sale by the end of the month.

Stolen by monkeys from Slashdot:
■The Model A (128 MB RAM, no ethernet port) is $25
■The Model B (256 MB RAM, ethernet port) is $35
The first run is of the Model B, as they anticipate more people are interested in that set of hardware. Their FAQ [raspberrypi.org] likely provides more in-depth information that what I have provided here.

That sucks. I'd like to at least get my hands on one and check the thing out.

It was a bit of a disaster tbh, they were massively let down by their suppliers websites crashing :(

Shame really, I don't think I will bother buying one myself now as the initial excitement is gone. My friend is now going to get a pandaboard

I found a place here in Canada taking pre-orders, so I put one in. They're quoting 30-day lead times right now... which is fine. I still got a lab exam to study for ;)

I'm going to wait a bit. I want to stick xbmc on there eventually. Maybe make it run a few others things as well

I got my AppleTV for XBMC. I'm not sure what I want to do with it... Maybe run all my internal DHCP/DNS/ stuff from it? Maybe buy a TV for my den and connect it to that? Maybe use it to take over the world?
