Working towards Comptia and Network +

Networking help/tutorials

Sun Nov 13, 2016 1:59 pm

Hello everybody, I am currently studying Network + and I came across a question that i'm struggling with. The question is "your employer is opening a new location and the it director has assigned you the task of calculating the subnet for the new LAN. You've determined that you need 50 subnets for the class b network beginning with the network ID 172.20.0.0. How many host bits will you need to use for the network information in the new subnets".

I'm having trouble even going about how I would break this question down and establish a train of thought so I could solve it. Is there anyone out there that could lend me a helping hand?

I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

You need 50 subnets so host bits would be 6.
128 64 32 16 8 4 2 1
0 0 1 1 0 0 1 0

First Network subnet would be
172.20.0.0 - 172.20.4.0
172.20.4.0 - 172.20.8.0
172.20.8.0-172.20.12.0
and so on.
