Hi SammyJ - thatnks for the input,

After I posted, I tried forcing to ADSL, ADSL2 and ADSL2+ and the Carrier Detect will only sync when it's set to ADSL2+. So it's detecting that the signal is ADSL2+ but will only sync at ADSL1 speed
I have no idea what you're talking about.

A protocol is a set of rules which are defined to allow communication.

I guess this can be seen as dilpomatic relations.
Cosmin....

The posters in this thread have said the best solution to your problem, and a scalable solution is to set the router up as the gateway to your network. yes, the public IP will sit on the router, but you can set port forwards to whichever machines require it. VNC is 5900 i believe, just forward that to your PC, this is a one off thing, then whoever connects VNC to your public IP will access your PC. They dont need to know what port as its the default. As so forth for your torrents.

I agree with them, biting the bullet to get the router setup as your networks gateway is the best solution.

In regards to your current problem, this may be an issue having the router coming off one NIC and your modem coming off the other. Have you statically set the default gateway correctly? As you have two NIC's it might be sending this data out your "LAN" NIC and not your "WAN" NIC. This would also coincide with your laptop working fine, it only has one NIC and one gateway.

On a side note, this forum is here for information and guidance. If people have said "set the router as the networks gateway" then its probably a good indication that the current setup isnt the best. I would advise you to follow their advice.

I hope my information has helped.
Just a thought,

On the 1841 set your DSL oprating mode to ADSL 1 and see what sync speeds you get, then also try setting it to auto and letting the exchange negotiate it.
Honestly I see it as being a continueing arms race with no real winner.

The ISPs and other gatekeepers are going to continue to buy overpriced packet shaping software and equipment to try to enforce their rules, and the tech savy are going to continue to use escilating forms of encryption, running things thru port 80 and other hacks to get around the shaping and throttling.

In the end, everyone looses as the money the gatekeeper spent would have been better used to increase bandwith rather than try to throttle what was available.

Here, you can see its starting to happen already:
To add to Vito's comments, set up a logon other then an admin and make it that you/ others (each user should have their own account) have to log onto the system. Also disable the guest account and change the administrator logon name from Administrator to another name.
XP has the power to make it a very secure enviroment and using the Windows Help file will guide you through all the steps.
I dunno, to me it always seemed that people were content with just hacking around the problem with NAT, MPLS or some other workaround, rather than facing it head on with IPv6.
How much were they? I have a Graybar close to me..
There are a ton of threads on here about this topic, a search will bring most of them up.

I would stick with 2950/60s, 3550/60s, and 2514s for your cheap routers, 2611s for your less cheap routers and 3640s for your somewhat expensive routers.
I agree on that, and Dynamips among with GNS are doing a great job, but I think I need something real to play with... (not anything extreme, but it's different emulating all the hardware into a prog and different doing it by hand... )
Get a couple decent switches for the BCMSN, at least (3550's work great). You can always emulate routers with Dynamips, so don't worry about buying too much routing hardware.
Subject: Help needed for a Cisco Lab.!
Posted: Mon May 12, 2008 5:10 pm (GMT -6)

Well, I am studying for my NP certification, and I am looking forward on buying some equipment in order to build my Cisco training lab.

See, I have found lots of offers in ebay, but I don't think I am able to decide what parts I need so as to do so.

Is anyone that kind to give me some advice

Thanks a lot!
Subject: Question Explanation
Posted: Mon May 12, 2008 4:53 pm (GMT -6)

Explain the key parameters associated with TCP transmissions such as ftp. Show how layer 4 ports allow multiple conversations to take place between server and numerous clients and how UDP differs from TCP?

Does this question want me to list FTP, TFTP, HTTP, SMTP, DNS and SNMP then explain layer 4 ports conversations?

Would I include telnet?

Like this

Ftp is a reliable connection orientated protocol that uses TCP to transfer files between systems that support FTP.

Cheers
Well I think I've come up with a general idea, but I want your opinions...

I was thinking of doing something along the lines of testing a variety of network mediums (copper, fiber, wireless) and applying their uses to business needs to find a baseline of when the more expensive materials become cost effective...

but I'm not sure how to do research on this... I would need to setup some sort of real-life scenario for testing.. your thoughts?
